Artificial Intelligence poses increasingly larger risk towards our collective societal health.

The amount of energy demanded by AI-companies and their data-centres puts incredible strain on our current infrastructure. This is being used to encourages increased investments BACK INTO FOSSIL FUELS!

A.I development also relies heavily on rare earth minerals for manufacturing the necessary hardware, like the THOUSANDS of GPUs needed for model training. This abundant need for resources will further the extraction and destruction of the environment.

This extraction is already disproportionally affecting the poorest and most vulnerable communities across the globe, specifically the global south.

The millions of gigabytes of raw data used by neural-networks to build-up their heuristics needs to first be "refined". Companies exploit those who are desperate for employment, having them perform the most de-humanizing labour for next to nothing.

Water is another key ingredient for "big-AI", as data-centres require a way to cool all of their energy hungry hardware. The solution for them will be to tap into local water supplys, diverting and polluting gallons and gallons of clean potable water.

In a time when more of our communities are facing the very real threat of wildfires, to divert such large amounts of water away from the public supply is abhorrent.

AI will not save us from climate change, it only serves to accelerate it. The solutions to our problems cannot be provided by a prompt. We need to work together, use our own i's to find a solution that is bottom-up (communal, reciprocal), from the left (politcal movements of solidarity), and with the Earth.

We cannot dismantle the master's house with the master's tools.

While we work together to develop the tools we need in our communities, we can do one thing in the meantime:

Mark Carney's government has just put forth Bill-C2 which stands to severely slash the rights of refugees and migrants. The bill also gives overreaching powers to the government that allows them to compel information service providers to hand over all information on anyone deemed a person of interest. It is very important that this bill is opposed. I highly encourage visiting this link toMigrantRights.cawho provide tools for helping to contact your local MP.
